Chapter 1 / 10
AI in a tax firm starts with a defined workflow
This guide is for tax firms and the people responsible for their operations and technology. It covers administrative workflows around documents, information and review tasks. It does not provide personal tax advice or present a chatbot as a replacement for an authorised professional. Implementation should distinguish work that can be prepared from the person responsible for its professional assessment.
A useful starting point is a recurring task with a clear input: assign documents, expose missing information or transfer approved records. “Use AI to do the accounting” is too broad. It contains different activities whose errors have different consequences. Separate capture, plausibility checking, professional assessment and final action in the brief.
The German Federal Chamber of Tax Advisers' AI FAQ, dated 27 January 2026, discusses use and responsibility. It explicitly identifies July 2025 as its underlying legal reference date. Current individual questions therefore require a separate check of applicable rules. The source supports the distinction between assistance and professional responsibility; it does not approve a particular firm's deployment.
